Tributes have been paid for Scottish actor Stevie Allen, known for playing Still Game character Manky Frankie, following his death.

The actor, who is best known for appearing in three episodes of the show from 2002 to 2004, has been described as “a lovely guy” and “full of fun”.

Allen also starred in episodes of Taggart and Macbeth before deciding to retrain as a paramedic with the Scottish Ambulance Service.

Actor Greg Hemphill said: “Gutted to hear the news that Stevie Allen has sadly passed away. He was out with us only briefly on Still Game, but boy did he leave an impression.”

Jane McCarry, known for the role of Isa in the hit sit-com, paid tribute to the actor, who she met before his performing days when he was a science technician at Glasgow’s King’s Park Secondary School.

She said: “I’m so sad to hear this news.

“I’ve known him since I was 12. He worked in my school as a science technician in the early 80’s.

“Then I used to see him at Glasgow Arts Centre. He was a fantastic guy, so genuine and full of fun.”

Actor Colin McCredie added: “A lovely guy. A year above me at the Academy. Did a few Taggarts with him too.”

Tom Urie, who appeared in the comedy show in 2003, added: “I knew Stevie at the very start of my career at the Byre Theatre in St Andrews. He was a lovely guy and a great actor.”
