Tributes have been paid to a Scottish DJ after his “heartbroken” family announced his death.

Music producer Jamie Roy, from Dumfries, passed away on Tuesday, a statement said.

“Jamie was a much loved and talented son, brother, nephew and uncle and loved by his many friends and colleagues both within the music industry and beyond that,” a post on the DJ’s Facebook page read.

“We are all absolutely heartbroken.”

A regular on the underground house circuit in Glasgow, Ibiza and around the world, the Scot’s death comes after he announced the release of new music he made during lockdown that he described as the “biggest track of my life”.

Roy started off running raves in his hometown while working as a plumber, he revealed in an interview in September 2020.

Eventually he was able to quit to focus on breaking into the music industry before being offered a residency in in Ibiza in 2015.

In 2019, he held a residency at Ushuaia in Ibiza for Grammy-nominated producer Nic Fanciulli’s Dance Or Die events.

In 2021, following the emergence of countries from Covid-19 lockdowns, Roy signed a global, multi-release record deal with Ultra Records.

Tributes have been paid by colleagues in the music industry.

Ewan McVicar, fellow Scottish DJ and producer of hit track Tell Me Something Good, said Roy was “one of the good ones”.

He said he was “gutted” to hear about the loss of the producer who had an “unmatched positive energy always and no hidden agenda”.

Independent house music label, Defected Records paid tribute to the DJ.

“We are all devastated to hear about the passing of Jamie this morning,” a statement posted on social media read.

“A great producer, DJ, and friend to so many within our industry. Our thoughts go out to his family and friends.

“Shine bright, Jamie.”

House producer and Spurs match day DJ Zoe London also paid tribute to Roy.

“I’m so sad to hear about Jamie Roy passing this morning,” she said.

“I’d followed him for a while and loved how inspiring his life and career in this industry was. He came across as a truly genuine and lovely guy. I’m sorry for the loss.”
