Days after retired NBA player Mario Chalmers threw shade at LeBron James for not intimidating opponents, another one of LeBron’s former teammates stood up for King James.
During an appearance on the Draymond Green Show this week, Tristan Thompson, who won a championship alongside LeBron on the 2016 Cleveland Cavaliers, ripped Chalmers for being out of line, while reminding the long-washed point guard that James is the “best player you’ve ever been on the court with.”
“That shit pissed me off, man,” Thompson told Green. “How can you say that about a guy you went to war with, who believed in you; and you’re going to come and say ‘No one fears LeBron?’ This is the best player you’ve ever been on the court with.”
“Guys be on some sucker shit. I don’t like that kind of stuff,” Thompson added.
While Thompson sounds grateful that LeBron was able to win him a ring and take Tristan and the Cavs to four straight NBA Finals appearances (2015-18), Chalmers appears to have taken James’ greatness for granted. Despite riding LeBron’s success to back-to-back titles with the Miami Heat (2012, 2013), Mario isn’t shy about expressing his criticism about his former teammate.
“Nobody fears Bron,” Chalmers said during an appearance on the Playmaker HQ podcast this week. “Nobody’s like, ‘Damn, I gotta go play against Bron tonight.’ Nobody said that. I don’t know why, because I seen people be scared when they actually line up to him, but they’re not scared thinking about that matchup.”
Chalmers added, “You hear anybody from that era talk about going against Jordan, there’s a fear,” Mario said. “So when you have people that fear a player, then that tells you something different already. Like Jordan is just that guy. Like everything was, ‘I want to be like Mike.’”
