A Glasgow chef is set to give away free meals to hungry festivalgoers this weekend, with a pop-up “climate-friendly” food stall.

Julie’s Can-teen, arranged by chef Julie Lin, will be serving out a set of Southeast Asian-inspired dishes at the festival on July 8 and 9.

The pop-up stall will be set up near the River Stage between 12 to 5pm, serving up dishes made from tinned ingredients.

Thai-inspired fish cakes, a chickpea & spinach saag curry, and honey & soy glazed Spam bao buns will be on offer while stocks last.

Julie’s Can-Teen previously the length and breadth of Scotland between March 28 and 31, introducing shelf-stable and sustainable tinned meals to diners.

The concept is inspired by research by Zero Waste Scotland which showed that the majority (55%) of people in the country have concerns about tinned food.

Speaking more about the Can-teen, Ms Lin said: “Tins are an unsung ‘double whammy’ of a hero in any kitchen – helping us to keep our rising food bills lower and reducing the amount of food we buy that goes off and gets thrown away, which is a major driver of climate change.

“Zero Waste Scotland’s research shows that nearly a quarter (21%) of people in Scotland think of tinned food as a ‘last resort’.”

She added: “What’s even more amazing is that tins are infinitely recyclable, meaning they can be made into other tins again and again, just by recycling them from the kerbside; which is a win-win (or rather tin-tin) for us and our environment.”

This year’s TRNSMT festival is set to run from July 7 to July 9, featuring headliners including Pulp, Sam Fender, The 1975, Niall Horan, George Ezra, Becky Hill and Kasabian.
