If you’re hoping for former United States (US) president Donald Trump returning to Twitter, you’re in for a major disappointment. South African-born billionaire and Tesla founder Elon Musk has purchased the social media platform for a whopping $44 billion. The sale means much change will be coming to Twitter quite soon, including the type of information and content that will be allowed under Musk.
News of Musk, the wealthiest man in the world, having control over Twitter, prompted questions around whether the likes of Trump would have their accounts reinstated, given the mogul’s (Musk) stance on free speech and why the ex-statesman was banned in the first place. Trump was permanently barred from Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat, in the wake of the January 6 riots which saw some of his most crazed supporters storm Capitol Hill.
Some of Trump’s tweets about the riots as they unfolded sparked concern with Twitter, which warned of “the risk of further incitement of violence.”
WHY DONALD TRUMP ISN’T GOING BACK TO TWITTER
Speaking on FOX News, Donald Trump says he has no plans of returning to Twitter as he will be formally joining TRUTH, which is his own social media site.
“I am not going on Twitter, I am going to stay on TRUTH. I hope Elon buys Twitter because he’ll make improvements to it and he is a good man, but I am going to be staying on TRUTH,” he said.
Trump says TRUTH is open to everyone – from conservatives to liberals, who are his fiercest critics. He further says he suports Musk in his decision to buy Twitter, saying he feels it would be a positive development in the social media space.
“We’re taking in millions of people, and what we’re finding is that the response on TRUTH is much better than being on Twitter. Twitter has bots and fake accounts, and we are doing everything we can.”
