TSA PreCheck Lowers Its Application Fee

TSA PreCheck Lowers Its Application Fee

A convenient travel service has become slightly more affordable in a world of rising prices on almost anything you buy. TSA PreCheck can help you avoid long airport security lines. The cost of PreCheck has recently been reduced.

How Much Does TSA PreCheck Cost?

Starting November 4, 2022, TSA PreCheck costs $78 for the initial enrollment and in-person renewal requests. The previous cost was $85, resulting in a $7 price decrease. It still costs $70 to renew TSA PreCheck online.

The membership period is five years for all approved applicants.

Approved passengers can enjoy expedited security screening along with potentially shorter wait times at domestic airports. The TSA reports that the average wait time in September 2022 for 93% of PreCheck travelers was five minutes or less.

How To Get TSA PreCheck

The applicant must apply online at tsa.gov/precheck. The application process also includes scheduling an in-person interview at one of the 500 nationwide enrollment centers, similar to applying for a travel passport.

While you can pay with any credit or debit card, many travel rewards cards reimburse the application fee for one applicant. Therefore, it’s possible to get TSA PreCheck for free.

Most applicants will receive their Known Traveler Number (KTN) approximately three to five days after the in-person interview. As a result, getting TSA PreCheck or renewing your Trusted Traveler credentials is still possible before flying during the holidays.

After receiving your KTN, you will need to link your airline loyalty accounts. The airline carrier must emboss the TSA PreCheck-approved emblem on your boarding pass for passengers to enter the expedited security line.

Children 12 or under can accompany their parent or guardian in the dedicated lanes at no extra cost.

Summary

The TSA PreCheck benefits are becoming more valuable as travel volumes increase to pre-pandemic levels. PreCheck is one of the best travel programs for domestic flights, as you can utilize this service at over 200 airports across the United States.
