TURKEY has scrapped their remaining Covid travel rules – which has given families a welcome holiday boost ahead of the summer season.
The popular holiday destination – home to Brit-favourite resorts Bodrum and Marmaris – no longer enforces any Covid restrictions to enter the country.
This means Brits no longer have to show a negative Covid test of proof of vaccination.
The requirement was lifted on June 1, but the UK Foreign Office has only just updated the travel restrictions.
The website now states: “As of 1 June, all COVID-19 restrictions in Turkey have been lifted, and passengers arriving in Turkey are no longer required to present proof of vaccination or negative PCR test results.”
However, they warn travellers to check the Covid rules before travelling as they can “change at short notice”.
Turkey has since changed it’s name, so Brits will have to be aware of the new spelling and pronunciation.
Going forward, Turkey will be referred to as Türkiye to more accurately represent the “country’s culture, civilization, and values” according to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The Turkish government have been campaigning for this rebrand since December, 2021 – after launching the ‘Hello Turkiye’ campaign to announce the decision.
Following annunciation guidelines, the pronunciation of the country’s name is “Tur-key-yay” – as it is spelled and pronounced in Turkish.
Brits on holiday in Turkey have been warned to have their passports on them at all times, or risk arrest.
The country has a little-known rule that requires holidaymakers to be able to show photographic ID at all times.
The Foreign Office website warns: “It is illegal not to carry some form of photographic ID in Turkey.
“You should carry your passport or residence permit at all times.
“In some busy areas, especially Istanbul, the Turkish authorities may stop members of the public to conduct ID checks.”
