Genesis, the luxury arm of established brands hailing from Korea, has officially put a price tag on their first all-electric vehicle. It’s called the GV60 and will be available in two flavours — Advanced and Performance — for $71,000 and $79,000, respectively. Both variants are equipped with all-wheel drive here in Canada.

Keep in mind those prices include all fees such as destination and delivery, with only local taxes being layered on top of this fixed price. Yes, Genesis is the latest in a line of manufacturers attempting to do away with the process of haggling a deal when shopping for cars. We hope it lasts. Five years of complimentary scheduled maintenance is also part of the price, plus Genesis Connected Services and Genesis-At-Home concierge services. The latter treats customers to the experience of pickup and delivery of their Genesis when it needs to be whisked away for service, ensuring the brand’s clientele never rub elbows with proles at the dealership.

“We are thrilled to begin our momentous journey towards full electrification with the launch of the GV60,” says Lawrence Hamilton, executive director of Genesis Motors Canada. “We are excited that our Canadian guests will be able to experience the innovative technologies, bold design, and extensive suite of Genesis Connected Services offered in this distinctive vehicle.”

Our own Clayton Seams recently sampled a GV60 deep in the heart of Texas and came away impressed by its style and power, declaring it an EV that dares to be fun in a dozen different ways. GV60’s Advanced trim features a 74kW electric motor up front and a 160kW motor in the rear, for a total of 314 hp and 446 lb-ft of torque. The example piloted by Mr. Seams, a Performance trim, swaps that front motor for a more powerful unit belting out 160kW, giving this trim a brace of the things and permitting it to 429 horsepower. Boost Mode, activated by thumbing a button on the steering wheel, increases that number to 483 hp and 516 lb-ft of twist for a few seconds. This trim also gets an electronic limited slip diff and trick suspension which reads the road ahead to smooth out bumps.

While Genesis is quick to point out units will be arriving later this month, those vehicles are largely already spoken for through an advanced reservation system. Thanks to demand and the world’s supply chain headaches, anyone placing an order today can realistically expect to wait six to 12 months before their all-electric whip shows up in the driveway.
