Castelfalfi
Last year historic Tuscan property Castelfalfi went through a full-scale update changing both its ownership and unveiling a new look, and there are even more changes coming to the resort this year. The hotel which spans a whopping 2700 acres will continue to renew its accommodations, culinary offerings and a wide range of activities. We spoke to Ambra Rollero, director of marketing and communications for Castelfalfi about what to expect in 2023.
Old Meets New
During a stay at Castelfalfi you can enjoy modern luxuries and also step back into history, all in the same day. The property features a Borgo, a traditional Italian village center which dates back over 2,000 years and has a rich history. “The estate, originally inhabited by the Etruscans, was continuously settled, and cultivated for over 2,000 years, before passing through the stewardship of Romans, Visigoth warlords, Florentine aristocrats, until being acquired by S.P. Lohia in 2021,” says Rollero. The central San Floriano Church is consecrated and is perfect for a destination wedding reflecting the rich cultural history of Castelfalfi. As you follow along the main street of the Borgo you’ll come across boutiques, apartments, and end at La Rocca, the property’s gourmet restaurant located in a restored castle. Here you can enjoy a fine dining experience and weather permitting, an incredible sunset while overlooking the vast Tuscan landscape.

A Dream for Activity Lovers
The wide terrain surrounding Castelfalfi is also the backdrop for a wide array of activities — it’s impossible to be bored on this property as there are 40 indoor and outdoor experiences you can book. Golfers will be delighted to play on the largest course in Italy, spanning 27 holes with the option to choose from a lake or mountain course. Another activity to immerse yourself in nature is their on-site truffle hunt where a guide and two Lagotto Romagnolo dogs will help you uncover the world’s most expensive fungus. You can also practice your hand at archery, scale a climbing wall or explore the adventure park which features suspended bridges and a treetop village. For families, there’s a designated Falfy Kids Club for children from three to 12 years old with an array of creative and educational activities. Castelfalfi is also located near several beautiful towns ideal for a day trip, just be aware you may not get through the array of on-site and off-site possibilities. “We are located at a 30 minutes’ drive from San Gimignano, Volterra, Florence or Pisa and just an hour away from the seaside, a week just isn’t enough time to enjoy all that the estate has to offer,” says Rollero.

Gastronomy and Discovery
Castelfalfi is an excellent property to not just eat great food and drink great wine but also a place to see how wine, olive oil, honey and more are harvested and produced. “Castelfalfi has a 25-hectare vineyard with 10,000 olive trees,” says Rollero. “The estate produces 100,000 bottles of wine and up to 40 quintals of olive oil per annum.” If you’re a wine lover make sure to tour the vineyards and winery then sample the various wines to get a taste of the surrounding land. With seven restaurants on property, you also won’t ever get bored culinarily during your stay. The Country Club House restaurant is a beautiful backdrop for a pasta lunch while La Via del Sale is excellent for dinner to try dishes like langoustines with a side of stunning Italian landscape.
More Updates to Come
In 2022 Castelfalfi revealed redesigned rooms, a new lobby, a re-imagined Ecrù Bar with its panoramic terrace and the agri-shop at the Tenuta Agricola. The property also unveiled an adventure park and padel court with more activities to come this year. This year there will be even more new rooms and suites created by international designers, with additional updates of the garden and landscape. Additionally, the restaurant inside the main building will be completely renovated with the new offering of live cooking demonstrations. These sessions will “put the guest in even closer contact with the tradition of Italian cuisine, in a new and comfortable location,” says Rollero.
With so many new updates, even if you’ve visited Castelfalfi in the past you would have a myriad of new things to discover. And with a plethora of experiences, restaurants and bars to choose from, you might not even be able to try everything the property has to offer during one vacation but you’re certainly encouraged to try.
