Typhlosion weaknesses and best counters in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

0

Typhlosion is the final evolution of Gen II’s adorable fire-type starter, Cyndaquil. You can usually rely on powerful Water attacks to extinguish this flaming beast, but as Typhlosion is now a Raid Pokemon, you’ll need a different approach. Typholosion’s weaknesses and best counters have changed in the latest Pokemon Scarlet and Violet 7-star raid with its spooky Ghost Terra Type.

7 Star Tera Raid Typhlosion weaknesses and best counters

Typhlosion is imbued with the Ghost Tera Type, which gives it a new weakness to Dark attacks. This Pokemon has an impressive amount of coverage and counters a lot of potential bad matchups.

Typhlosion’s Moveset

  • Eruption
  • Sunny Day
  • Play Rough
  • Shadow Ball
  • Earthquake

Typhlosion loves to use Sunny Day to power up its Fire attacks and then relentlessly bombard its opponents with Eruption. You can exploit Typhlosions new weaknesses and counter Dark attacks with something like Hisuian Zoroark, but a much more foolproof strategy is available.

Introducing Annihialape

Annihilape Stats

Annihialape already has quite the reputation as a Raid killer. It can solo most raids, including this new Typhlosion Raid, when properly trained. To maximize your chances, this is what we recommend:

  • Nature – Adamant (Attack up, SP Attack down)
  • EV Spread – 252 EVs in Attack, 252 EVs in HP
  • Ghost Tera Type – This is optional. Fighting works fine too.
  • Ability – Defiance. This is optimal in Raids but not essential.

Recommended Moveset

  • Screech
  • Rage Punch
  • Bulk Up
  • Drain Punch

The strategy in battle is incredibly simple. Use Screech once and spam Rage Punch until Typhlosion is defeated. Terastalize as early as you can to break Typhlosions stance, and don’t worry if you die a few times during the battle. There may come a time when Game Freak releases a Raid Pokemon to counter this strategy. But until then, enjoy this overpowered strategy no matter what weaknesses and counters the enemy Pokemon has.

How to counter the regular Typhlosion

Typhlosion is a dangerous Pokemon with a decent speed stat and access to hard-hitting special attacks like Eruption and Flamethrower. The latter can inflict burns that drain health each turn and reduce the effectiveness of your physical attacks. As it’s a Fire-Type, you can crush Typhlosion with decent Water, Ground, or Rock attacks.

Typhlosion may look intimidating, but it’s outdated and pales compared to many other Fire-Types, including the new Skeledirge. In a competitive setting, a bulky Water-Type like Vaporeon will demolish Typhlosion, no matter its moveset.

Which Pokemon is next for 7 Star Raids?

Game Freak usually releases details on the latest Raid Pokemon a week before the event goes live. We can’t say for sure just yet, but we’ve seen many fan-favorite starter Pokemon in Raids. My money would be on Swampert or Sceptile from Gen III, as we’ve had Gen I and Gen II starters, but we will have to wait and see.
