Where does Tyson Fury’s win leave the world heavyweight scene?

Just four names remain in our search to find the best boxer from Britain and Ireland since 2000.

The number of talented pugilists to emerge from Britain and Ireland in the past two decades has been endless, but if you had to crown just one as the best, who would you pick?

Lennox Lewis, Joe Calzaghe, Tyson Fury and Prince Naseem all won their quarter-final matchups and have progressed to the semi-finals.

The last round saw the likes of David Haye and Ricky Hatton eliminated with over 17,000 of you casting your votes in the quarter-finals – and we were left with the following results:

Lennox Lewis 87% – Ricky Hatton 13%

Prince Naseem 70% – Carl Frampton 30%

Joe Calzaghe 85% – David Haye 15%

Tyson Fury 96% – Billy Joe Saunders 4%

With just four fighters left, our random draw threw up these ties which you can now vote on.

You are not voting for who would win a mythical match-up, but rather who has had the better career.

Lennox Lewis v Joe Calzaghe

Lewis is the last fighter to hold the undisputed heavyweight championship and one of five heavyweights to be a three-time world champion. ‘The Lion’ defeated the likes of Mike Tyson, Frank Bruno and David Tua during his professional career. Lewis retired in 2003 with a record of 41-2-1 after a hard-fought win over Vitali Klitschko.

Calzaghe is a former two-weight world champion who retired undefeated with a record of 45-0. ‘The Italian Dragon’ won the WBO super-middleweight title against Chris Eubank in 1997 and defended the belt a record-breaking 20 times. Calzaghe moved up to light heavyweight and defeated ring legends Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr in the final two fights of his legendary career.

Tyson Fury v Prince Naseem

The current WBC champion Fury ghosted from the sport following his upset win against Wladimir Klitschko in 2015. He battled through mental health issues and put on over 10 stone before returning to the ring in 2018. ‘The Gypsy King’ has since been through an epic trilogy with Deontay Wilder, ending his rivalry with the American last month. Fury will likely be ordered by the WBC to fight domestic rival Dillian Whyte next.

Sheffield-born Naseem played an instrumental role in bringing showboating and spectacular ring walks into boxing. A two-time featherweight champion who could also walk the walk, 31 of Naseem’s 36 professional wins came by stoppage. Naseem only fought once after his shock loss to Marco Antonio Barrera in 2001, outpointing Spanaird Manuel Calvo and retiring with a record of 36-1.
