Tyson Fury discusses return to boxing for ‘exhibition’ fights

Tyson Fury has been invited to hold talks in Mexico regarding his heavyweight future by WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman.

The ‘Gypsy King’ defeated Dillian Whyte back in April to successfully defend his WBC title before declaring the fight was his last in the ring. Fury has since hinted at a retirement U-turn to face the winner of Anthony Joshua’s looming rematch with Oleksandr Usyk, before later suggesting it would require an offer of £500 million to see him climb beyond the ropes again.

Sulaiman believes that if Fury elects to retire it would set an example for future fighters on how to end their career while remaining on top form. “I will reach out to him this week to see what we can do – assuming he wants to visit Mexico so I’m going to talk to him (to) see maybe he can visit our country and we can show him our hospitality and just show him the love that Mexican fans have for him,” Sulaiman told Planet Sport.

“He has expressed continuously that he’s retired, but when we spoke, we agreed that he will take his time and I’m going to talk to him and his promoters in the near future – just to get started to see if he confirms he’s retired. That will be a great example to go out while you’re on top.

“It is a great example to every boxer because many times we have seen sad stories when they retire once they have lost all their greatness. He has a beautiful family, he has money, he has great ways of making money outside of the ring. But if he continues fighting, he’s a proud WBC champion.”

Fury will be under no deadline to decided whether to vacate his WBC title and is expected to wait to discover the outcome of Joshua’s sequel with Usyk. Several prominent figures inside Fury’s camp, including his wife Paris, are uncertain that the star will hang up his gloves and believe he could be tempted by a mega-money meeting with Joshua.

The ‘Gypsy King’ quickly responded by shutting down any potential fights and is uninterested in the outcome of his rival’s sequel this summer. Fury has now stated that it will take an offer of £500 million to lure him back in the ring. “Even that £200million report today, that didn’t even tempt me,” Fury said on talkSPORT. “That would be like half of what I would want to come out of retirement.

“I’d probably want half a billion to come out of retirement. I’m telling you the truth, if you want me out of retirement it’s going to cost half a billion. AJ’s bubble’s been burst, he’s been beat twice. He isn’t a virgin anymore, he’s been battered from pillar to post by a fat man on three weeks’ notice and by a middleweight. If it’s half a billion, then I won’t say no, will I?”
