“We’re coming for you, Jake Paul”

Tyson Fury needed injections in both of his elbows before his trilogy with Deontay Wilder last month.

Fury knocked out Wilder in the 11th round of their trilogy after being put down twice earlier in the fight.

The win marked Fury’s first defence of WBC title, the belt he won by knocking out Wilder in their rematch last February.

Details of his injury were not revealed in the lead up to the fight, but his father John has revealed his son has since had surgery on both joints.

“It wasn’t a boxing match was it. Tyson was very badly injured going into that fight,” he told BT Sport Boxing.

“He had to have chromosome injections into both elbows. He’s since had an operation, six hours all day in hospital having them sorted out.

“I think he had some bone spurs that he had to get removed, he was handicapped from the beginning. The boxing side of it went out the window because I knew he was going to be like that from early on.

“When I seen the look on his eye, I just knew he wanted to seek and destroy. That’s what he did and believe me, it was exciting for the paying public.”

Fury will likely be ordered to defend his belt against mandatory challenger and domestic rival Dillian Whyte next.

The Brit has returned home to Morecambe since his big win Stateside and is coaching his younger brother Tommy for his upcoming fight with Jake Paul.

He’s even threatened not to allow his brother to come home if he doesn’t beat the internet star Paul on December 18.

Fury was originally scheduled to fight Wilder in July, but it was pushed back after the Brit tested positive for Covid-19.

He also suffered a health scare with his newborn daughter Athena just weeks before facing Wilder.

And Fury’s father thinks his son had too many problems going into the fight.

“In my mind I knew it was only 50 per cent of what he should because he had too many problems,” he continued.

“He had the Covid in July, the problems with his daughter. You can’t get your head straight from that within weeks.

“I could see it was ring rust, 20 months out the ring and he thought ‘okay to hell with the boxing it’s not gonna work, let’s have it, let’s have a war’.

“He stood toe to toe with him. But it shortens careers doesn’t it.”
