Tyson Fury WILL fight again despite latest retirement promise, says John Fury

John Fury has cast doubt on Tyson Fury’s most recent retirement vow, insisting the undefeated heavyweight is ‘not done yet’.

‘The Gypsy King’ once again announced his retirement from boxing last week after ‘long, hard conversations’ over his future.

Fury reaffirmed that decision by vacating The Ring Magazine belt, which will now be on the line on Saturday night when Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua meet in their IBF, WBO and WBA title rematch in Saudi Arabia.

The 34-year-old has been given until 26 August to make a final decision over vacating the WBC title – handing him the chance to watch Usyk vs Joshua II unfold before finalising his next move.

Fury has been widely tipped to meet the winner of Saturday’s showdown to crown the heavyweight division’s first undisputed champion since Lennox Lewis.

And while he insists he is done with the sport, John Fury insists his son ‘can’t live without boxing’.

‘Tyson’s his own man, what he says today, might not be the case next week,’ Fury exclusively told Metro.co.uk courtesy of Freebets.com.

‘But give him three months of the life he’s living now; he’s going to want the gym again. Tyson can’t live without boxing. He can’t live without it, that’s my opinion.

‘He just doesn’t function right if he doesn’t train every day. It’s food for his mind and his body and whatever he wants to do.

‘So, you know what, if he keeps going to the gym twice a day, he’s going to want to do something at the end of it. You can’t train like that and not for something.

‘We all want to keep fit, we know it’s good for us, but he likes to train twice a day. So, if he’s going to keep sparring with these young lads, you might as well get paid for it. From my view, he’s not done yet, no.’

Joshua is seeking to reclaim the world titles he lost to Usyk, having been comprehensively beaten by the undefeated Ukrainian in London last September.

Whether Joshua gets his revenge or Usyk retains the belts, Fury and the chance to unify the division will almost certainly be the next target for both men.

And should the winner immediately call out the WBC champion, Fury Snr expects a quick response from ‘The Gypsy King’ will follow.

‘Tyson is a unique man, no-one knows what his reaction to being called out would be,’ Fury  said. ‘I wouldn’t mind being a fly on the wall for that. Whatever goes down, I’m sure Tyson will put his two pence in. It’ll be something special, believe me. It’ll be worth watching for sure.

He added: ‘We don’t know what he’s going to do, one day from the next. He’ll retire today and not tomorrow. The decision is Tyson’s, whatever he does I’ll always support him. If he stays retired or comes back, I’ll support him.

‘It’s a tempting, mouth-watering, lucrative position whoever wins, but I don’t know what he’s going to do as of this minute. Tyson’s a funny guy, just watch this space.’
