MANILA, Philippines — Kai Ballungay unleashed a career-high 21 points as Ateneo vented its ire on Adamson, 76-55, to regain its winning ways in the UAAP Season 85 men’s basketball tournament on Wednesday at Mall of Asia Arena.
Licking the wounds of their tough 76-71 overtime loss to defending champion University of the Philippines in overtime last Sunday, Ateneo drew a stellar shooting display from Ballungay.
Ballungay shot 8-of-10 from the field and tallied four rebounds and two assists to lead the Blue Eagles’ bounce back.
Ateneo started to pull away in the third quarter with a 12-0 run ignited by Dave Ildefonso to build a 21-point lead, 53-32, with 6:50 left in the period.
The Blue Eagles led as many as 23 after Ballungay converted on BJ Andrade’s lob for a 72-49 spread, with 3:39 remaining.
Ateneo improved to a 4-2 record while sending Adamson to a 2-4 card.
