With coronavirus cases surging locally, UC Riverside classes will continue to be held virtually through Jan. 28, officials announced Friday, Jan. 7.
Virtual learning was originally scheduled for the first two weeks of the winter quarter. UCR also won’t have large, in-person indoor events before Monday, Jan. 31, a letter from Chancellor Kim Wilcox states. In-person instruction is scheduled to resume Jan. 31, he wrote.
The campus will remain open along with facilities like the library, Highlander Union Building and Student Recreation Center with reduced hours and occupancy limits.
All students and employees must be fully vaccinated, including booster shots, by Jan. 31 or as soon as they’re eligible, and students and employees at UCR facilities must undergo daily wellness checks.
UCR students returned to campus in fall after 18 months of remote instruction.
The surge, fueled by the omicron variant, is forcing other Inland campuses to change their plans. Late last month, California Baptist University announced it would delay the start of its spring semester eight days to Jan. 18 to prevent the virus’s spread.
