UC sweatshirts that were quickly yanked by Costco become a hot item

A misprinted UC Irvine sweatshirt that Costco yanked after less than a day is a sought-after item for some  of the campus’ students and alumni.

Tweets bounced around looking for the sweatshirt emblazoned “UC Urvine Anteaters.”

Class of 2010 alumna Vivian Le said she never purchased UCI merchandise while she attended the university, but would “definitely buy this” and is confident other students would do the same if another vendor were to release the design.

Some would-be buyers begged those who’d discovered them to consider putting them up for resale.

Le said she checked eBay immediately after seeing the sweatshirts on Twitter, but didn’t see any listings.

Costco started selling uci hoodies but misspelled Irvine from UCI

A UCI spokesperson said the university “was made aware of the defective merchandise over the weekend at three Costco stores in Orange County,” and that the stores “took immediate action to have (the sweatshirts) removed.”

“UCI regularly works with vendors and on merchandising, design, manufacturing and retail. Although there are different places in the merchandising chain where a defect may occur, it is a rare occurrence,” the spokesperson added.

Costco’s administrative offices declined to comment on the misprinted merchandise.
