EXCLUSIVE: UEFA hold urgent talks on taking a stand against disgraceful racist abuse targeted at Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jnr… despite a reluctance to act amid a feeling it is an internal issue for Spain
UEFA have held urgent talks regarding taking a public stand against the disgusting racist abuse suffered by Real Madrid forward Vinicius Jnr.
As of Tuesday night, despite internal calls to do so, there was a reluctance from European football’s governing body to publicly intervene into a matter that has shocked the world in recent days.
Given the escalating nature of the situation, their stance may change in the coming days as they decide whether to reinforce their anti-discrimination stance after in-house talks.
The feeling on Tuesday was that the matter is an internal issue for Spanish football.
UEFA have a strong anti-racism policy and have a number of initiatives in place to fight discriminatory behaviour abuse in football.

European football’s governing body was previously reluctant to intervene on what was seen as a Spanish internal issue, but their stance may change in the coming days as the issue escalates
But the organisation are often cautious in commenting on such matters that occur in individual European leagues.
Meanwhile, Vinicius Jr’s manager Carlo Ancelotti believes the South American will stay at Real Madrid despite the player hinting he was open to leaving the club after two years of racist abuse.
Vinicius said he would not back down in his fight against racism even if he had to go far away to continue his struggle.
But asked if the 22-year-old was contemplating leaving Madrid, Ancelotti said: ‘I don’t think so. He loves Real Madrid.
‘A lot of things have gone through his head but I don’t think it’s on his mind to leave. His love for the club is very big and he wants to make his career here.’
Vinicius did not train on Tuesday with Ancelotti telling reporters he had a slight knee problem and did not need to risk injury with a suspension of one or two games about to start for his red card against Valencia on Sunday.
