At 42 years old and 21 fights in the Octagon, Glover Teixeira can finally say he is a UFC champion, defeating Jan Blachowicz via second-round submission to become the new UFC light heavyweight champion in the main event of UFC 267.

Teixeira now becomes the second-oldest fighter in UFC history to win a UFC title.

Blachowicz’s light heavyweight title run began on Fight Island last year, when he knocked out Dominick Reyes to claim the then-vacant title at UFC 253. He successfully defended the title earlier this year in a superfight with middleweight champion Israel Adesanya at UFC 259, handing Adesanya his first loss in MMA.

Teixeira first challenged for the UFC light heavyweight champion at UFC 172 in February 2014, when Jon Jones was still champion. He lost by unanimous decision. Now at 42, Teixeira earned a second title shot after a solid run since the start of 2019, winning five straight with four finishes and a couple of post-fight bonuses to go with them.

Teixeira was in complete control from the start of the fight, scoring a takedown on Blachowicz early on and staying in top position throughout the first round, throwing ground-and-pound.

Blachowicz and Teixeira traded throughout the second round, but Blachowicz allowed Teixeira to get into top position again. There, Teixeira delivered more ground-and-pound before sinking in a choke and scoring the tap.
