UFC 268: Who is Alex Pereira?

As if the UFC’s middleweight division didn’t need any more star power, add former Glory kickboxing champion Alex Pereira to the mix.

Pereira is scheduled to make his UFC debut this weekend at UFC 268 against Andreas Michailidis, in a preliminary card matchup that many will keep an eye on. He signed with the UFC just before his fight with Artem Vakhitov at Glory 78.

Pereira is an explosive striker whom fans will most certainly love to watch compete in the octagon. He’s also the only man ever to knock out UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya in any sport, and will now join him in the 185-pound division.

Pereira earned Glory kickboxing titles at both light heavyweight and middleweight during his long tenure in the promotion. In MMA, he most recently competed against Thomas Powell at LFA 95 in a first-round knockout win.

Pereira trains with some of the top fighters in the UFC, including newly-crowned light heavyweight champion Glover Teixeira. He decided to transition from kickboxing to MMA full-time despite being near the later stages of his athletic prime.

Pereira made his kickboxing debut in 2012 with Jungle Fight and quickly turned into one of the most dangerous athletes in the sport.

Pereira is one of many up-and-coming prospects in the UFC who will make their debut this weekend at UFC 268. If his recent kickboxing success is any indication, fans can expect fireworks inside the octagon.
