UFC 268: Who is Ian Garry?

Newly-signed UFC welterweight Ian Garry idolized former UFC champion Conor McGregor growing up, and now he’ll look to follow the same path as a former Cage Warriors champion who found success in the UFC.

Garry will make his UFC debut this weekend at UFC 269 against Jordan Williams, a tough UFC veteran who has competed against the likes of Gregory Rodrigues and Mickey Gall. Garry is undefeated in his professional career with a 7-0 record and earned the Cage Warriors welterweight title by defeating Jack Grant at CW 125 this summer.

Garry’s signing with the UFC will help to further develop the fan interest overseas. The Irish MMA scene has exploded in recent years, with stars such as McGregor and Bellator bantamweight contender James Gallagher.

Garry isn’t the only recent Cage Warriors welterweight champion to leap the UFC. Mason Jones signed with the promotion and recently defeated David Onama at UFC Vegas 41.

Garry is known for his relentless pace with his stand-up but also possesses underrated grappling. For a prospect as raw as he is, he’s shown that he has the skill set of a seasoned veteran.

Garry trains down at Sanford MMA in south Florida; alongside top UFC contenders such as Gilbert Burns and Michael Chandler. He made the move to the states just days after his final bout in Cage Warriors.

At 23 years old, the sky is the limit for Garry. He’ll look to make a statement in his UFC debut and put the rest of the welterweight division on notice.
