Jorge Masvidal out of fight with Leon Edwards due to injury.
According to ESPN, Jorge Masvidal is injured and out of his fight with Leon Edwards previously scheduled for UFC 269 on Dec. 11. UFC Chief Business Officer Hunter Campbell confirmed the news with ESPN on Wednesday.
The injury to Masvidal was not disclosed and he has yet to comment on social media about the withdraw.
At press time it’s unclear if the UFC will find a replacement for Edwards or if they will look to re-book the fight at a later date.
Belal Muhammad, Khamzat Chimaev wants to step in to fight Leon Edwards
Many fans have wondered if someone such as Khamzat Chimaev or Colby Covington could be ready, though Covington surely could not make the Dec. 11 date as he’s recovering from a five-round war with the champion, Kamaru Usman.
Chimaev tweeted shortly after the news was made public volunteering to fight Edwards.
“Let’s go bro we do it,” Chimaev tweeted.
Another option for Edwards is Belal Muhammad, who has already taken to Twitter to express his interest in the fight.
“Took it on 2 weeks last time give me 4 this time I’m ready,” he wrote on Twitter shortly after the news broke.
The fight between Masvidal and Edwards has been brewing for years and stems from a backstage altercation that happened in 2019 where Masvidal assaulted Edwards and coined the “three-piece and a soda” phrase that made him famous.
