UFC 269: Josh Emmett defeated Dan Ige.
Josh Emmett defeated Dan Ige via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27), at UFC 269 on Saturday, Dec. 11, 2021, live from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV.
In the first big exchange of the fight, Emmett dropped Ige and landed a few shots on the ground, before Ige was able to get back up to his feet. Ige caught a knee from Emmett and brought him to the ground. Emmett flipped position and landed a powerful right hand. Ige was again able to escape and recover. The two fighters slowed their pace for the remainder of the first round.
Emmett opened the second round with a powerful jab. Ige came right back with a combination but ate a leg kick. Ige came forward again with a combination to the body. Emmett landed a powerful body shot. Ige went for a takedown but Emmett was able to sprawl and prevent the takedown. Ige hurt Emmett with a left hook but did not force the finish. Ige was controlled and did not put himself in jeopardy of being countered.
Both fighters entered the final round, knowing that it was tied. The winner of the third round would win the fight. Emmett opened the round as the more aggressive fighter, taking the center of the Octagon The two fighters traded punches throughout the round. Emmett continued to look for his powerful right hand. While Ige used his varied attack to land shots in several different ways. While the first two rounds were easy to score, the final round was extremely close and could have gone either way.
Emmett made his return to the Octagon after spending more than a year on the sidelines with a knee injury. In his last fight, Emmett defeated Shane Burgos in a fight of the year performance on June 20, 2020. Entering Saturday’s fight, Emmett had won three straight fights.
Ige entered UFC 269 ranked eighth in the featherweight division, one spot behind Emmett. In his last fight, Ige was defeated by Chan Sung Jung.
