Deiveson Figueiredo has become the first-ever two-time flyweight champion in UFC history, edging out Brandon Moreno in a tight decision in the co-main event of UFC 270.

Figueiredo had the striking advantage in a very close first round, with plenty of feeling out. He out-landed Moreno and scored significantly in leg kicks. Moreno, however, did land a couple of strong strikes.

Moreno managed to land the better, quicker and sharper shots in the second round, though Figueiredo continued to make things difficult, namely with his leg kicks.

Moreno appeared to be wobbled a bit by a left hand during the third round, but Moreno fired back and forced Figueiredo to back up. Moreno landed a hard left that stumbled Figueiredo again a little over a minute later, but Figueiredo arguably stole the round at the end by dropping Moreno with a right hand and locking in a guillotine briefly before time in the third round expired.

After a super-competitive close fourth round, arguably the hardest to score, Moreno was able to briefly score a takedown to open the final frame. Both men rocked one another with about two minutes left. In the fight’s final minute, both men had a wild exchange, landing hard shots in close, with Figueiredo arguably getting more rocked by the strikes before the horn.

All three judges scored the bout 48-47 in Figueiredo’s favor.

Reactions to Deiveson Figueiredo regaining flyweight title from Brandon Moreno at UFC 270

Moreno and Figueiredo first met in the main event of UFC 256 in December 2020, just a month after they scored wins over Brandon Royval and Alex Perez, respectively, at UFC 255. The two battled a highly intense and close bout that ended in a majority draw.

The pair rematched at UFC 263, which saw Moreno gain more of an upper hand and submit Figueiredo in the third round to win the title.

UFC 270 takes place on Saturday, Jan. 22, 2022, live from the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA. Follow along with FanSided MMA, who is on-site, for all your news and highlights.
