Victor Henry sat down with members of the media following his victory at UFC 270.
Journeyman fighter Victor Henry was a ball of energy in his post-fight press conference. It is hard not to be infected by the excitement of the 34-year-old fighter, who came away with a decision victory in his UFC debut on a major UFC pay-per-view. A dream for some to be sure but just another day at the office for him. He was quick to call out the doubters online who said his opponent should make quick work of him.
“I told y’all. A lot of media outlets counted me out but that’s only because I feel, personally, that a lot of people are UFC fans and not MMA fans they don’t watch MMA from around the world they know what they see in the UFC. I’ve been traveling around the world and fighting a lot of tough guys.”
He was quick to clarify that he isn’t upset or bitter about the belief that he would be a quick beat for Raoni Barcelos. “Nah the only chip I have on my shoulder is that I was born kind of ugly. I can’t help that but I realize that my road is not going to be the same as anyone else’s.”
Victor Henry is focused only on pizza post-fight
Henry feels incredibly lucky to be given this opportunity at this stage of his career. He also sees his time in the UFC as an opportunity to bring his brand of catch wrestling back to the forefront of MMA fans’ minds.
“I was hoping to grab a catch double wrist lock today so that when they called it a kimura I could yell at them. But I am glad that catch wrestling is making a comeback in Mixed Martial Arts.” He continues, “You’ll see a lot more submissions. Jiu-Jitsu itself is picking up a lot more catch moves. People are getting more educated on the effectiveness of catch wrestling and sambo and opening up their eyes to not just Muay Tai, not just Jiu-Jitsu. That’s 10 years ago man everybody has got to study everything and pull from everything.”
So when can UFC and catch wrestling fans expect to see their newest favorite fighter get back into the octagon? Well, Henry had an idea with respect to that as well.
“As soon as I am done crushing this pizza that I am about to mess up give me a call and I will be there.”
