Jiri Prochazka wins the UFC light heavyweight championship with win over Glover Teixeira at the last possible minute in the UFC 275 main event that will go down as a classic.
In just his third UFC fight, and nearing a sure defeat, Jiri Prochazka leaves UFC 275 as the new light heavyweight champion, scoring a fifth-round submission of Glover Teixeira in the main event — a fight that will go down as one of the greatest light heavyweight clashes in UFC history.
This was Teixeira’s first defense attempt of the UFC light heavyweight title. Prochazka, the former RIZIN light heavyweight champion, has now won 13 straight.

After coming out of the gate with a round kick to the body and head, Teixeira scored a takedown of Prochazka about a minute into the fight. Teixeira threatened to get Pochazka’s back, but Prochazka managed to eventually find his way back to his feet.
Prochazka came forward firing but Teixeira rocked him with three hard shots and another takedown attempt nearly saw him finished by Teixeira. Prochazka would find his way to his feet and on top though, landing some hard shots before the round’s end.
After a brief pause early in the second round due to an eye poke, Prochazka started to fire out flurries, landing some heavy shots on the defending champion, though Teixeira wasn’t going down easy. Prochazka pieced up Teixeira until about a minute left in the round, when Teixeira scored a takedown and got into the mount, nearly getting another choke and landing some vicious ground-and-pound, including a couple of nasty elbows that busted open Prochazka.
Prochazka dominated the third round, landing powerful shots that rocked Teixeira, who was unable to score the takedown when the opportunity presented itself. Prochazka pounded at Teixeira’s body and cracked him more, folding him before questionably going for an arm triangle, which allowed Teixeira to reverse and end the round on top.
Prochazka looked to get back where he started in round four, but a left hook by Teixeira stunned Prochazka and allowed him to take the challenger down once more.
Teixeira rocked Prochazka in the opening minute of the final frame, but he allowed Prochazka some time to recover by going for a choke — and repeating the sequence. Teixeira then scored another takedown, where he’d mount Prochazka and threaten another finish. With just over a minute left, Prochazka reversed and got on top, where he’d choke Teixeira into submission at the last minute.
