Kevin Holland takes a shot at Khamzat Chimeav heading into UFC 279.
Many are looking at UFC 279 as a potential swan song for Nate Diaz. Whether that is true is still to be seen, but he’s not the only fighter fans are looking to cheer on. Kevin Holland will take on Daniel Rodriguez on the same card, and while that fight is in front of him, he has some words for a main eventer, Khamzat Chimeav.
“I don’t have an issue with anybody on the roster,” Holland said when asked of prior problems with Chimeav. “If anybody has an issue with me, that’s their problem. I’ve never had an issue. But I’ll tell you how I feel about anybody.”
Holland had some harsher words to describe Chimeav before moving on.
“I feel like he likes the media. He only does this extra ‘wannabe street [expletive]’ when the media is around,” Holland said. “When you guys aren’t around, he wants to do fist bumps and be your best friend. When you guys are around all of a sudden, he’s like ‘I want to rip your head off.’ Let’s be real. You want a paycheck just like the rest of these guys around here.”
Kevin Holland is amid a two-fight win streak. His last victory came over Tim Means back in June and he also defeated Alex Oliveira at UFC 272. This was a 180-degree turnaround to his 2021 where he dropped two fights and had a no-contest against Kyle Daukaus via accidental clash of heads.
Daniel Rodriguez has momentum of his own that he’s trying to maintain
Rodriguez is a name that MMA fans may better recognize if he’s able to pick up a victory over Holland. Coming into this fight he’s won his last three, all in 2021 when he defeated Mike Perry, Preston Parsons, and Kevin Lee. Since joining the UFC via Dana White’s Contender Series in 2019, he has put together a 7-1 run. Rodriguez will bring a 16-2 professional record into the Octagon.
