Fights between two top-ranked fighters do not usually look as one-sided as the bout between Marvin Vettori and Robert Whittaker did.
Israel Adesanya dominates the UFC’s middleweight division, causing some of the other top fighters in the weight class to be overlooked. In the co-main event of UFC Paris, two of the most overlooked talents in the division, Marvin Vettori and Robert Whittaker got the chance to build their reputation.
However, only Whittaker would come out of the fight with a larger profile, as he dominated Marvin Vettori for 15 minutes. Almost doubling Vettori in total strikes, more than doubling the significant strike output, and refusing to get taken down by one of the most accurate wrestlers in the UFC, Whittaker commanded the Octagon and earned a unanimous decision victory.
Robert Whittaker likely earned a title shot with a dominant performance
Whittaker is 0-2 against Israel Adesanya, which may make it hard to convince the bookers of the UFC to give him another shot at middleweight gold while Adesanya is champion. However, with his dominance over the rest of the top-ranked fighters in the division, it may soon be impossible to keep Whittaker away from a PPV main event and a shot at finally getting one over his Australian rival.
