Just 10 months after his record-shattering performance on Fight Island in January, Max “Blessed” Holloway returned to the Octagon in style and put on a technical performance to get the unanimous decision win over fellow featherweight contender Yair Rodriguez.

Holloway, the former UFC featherweight champion welcomed back Rodriguez for his first bout in over two years, and the fight lived up to all the hype and more. The fight which was originally scheduled for July 17 was shelved due to an undisclosed injury for Holloway.

The fight went as advertised, there were moments where both fighters looked dangerous, and took the opportunity to utilise each of their weapons to good use, Rodriguez in signature style threw kicks, elbows and demonstrated why his unorthodox style presents a dangerous threat to all opponents. The veteran Holloway weathered an early onslaught of strikes from all angles until he was able to work comfortably with his striking, and mix in some unusual attempts to get the fight to the ground. The gritty performance by Holloway mixing in all of his tricks proved to be too much for the returning Rodriguez who goes without a win since his last bout in 2019.
