Nick Maximov credits the Diaz brothers for the co-main event slot at UFC Vegas 47.
UFC middleweight prospect Nick Maximov is prepared and ready for the extra spotlight that comes with being in a UFC co-main event bout.
The 24-year-old Maximov is a protege of Nick and Nate Diaz, arguably two of the biggest fan favorites in UFC history. He passed his first octagon test with flying colors, earning a unanimous decision win over Cody Brundage at UFC 266.
Maximov will get his first taste of not only being on a UFC main card but also being in a co-main event against Punahele Soriano at UFC Vegas 47. During his UFC Vegas 47 pre-fight press conference, Maximov spoke about how he’s handled the pressure of being in the second to last fight on a card.
“It was surreal,” Maximov said. “I didn’t even know I was on the main card, let alone the co-main event. Being with Nick and Nate [Diaz] a lot helped me prepare to be in a situation like this. So, I’m really excited for it. I don’t have all of these crazy nerves and I’m just thankful for the opportunity.”
Nick Maximov is a middleweight prospect to keep an eye on in 2022
Maximov first earned an opportunity in the UFC after a successful run on Dana White’s Contender Series. He earned a unanimous decision win over Oscar Cota and impressed UFC president Dana White and the rest of the brass.
Maximov is a well-balanced fighter who can finish the fight on the ground or the feet. His first five wins of his professional career were all finishes, and he’s a potential dark horse at 185 pounds for years to come.
