UFC Vegas 64: Amanda Lemos scores stoppage of Marina Rodriguez (Video)

There will be debate if the stoppage was too early, but Amanda Lemos manages to get the job done against Marina Rodriguez and make a statement to the top of the strawweight division at UFC Vegas 64.

Early stoppage or not, Amanda Lemos manages to continue her climb up the UFC strawweight ladder thanks to a third-round finish of Marina Rodriguez in the main event of UFC Vegas 64.

Lemos has now won seven of her last eight and is now 7-2 in the Octagon, looking likely at a position within the top-five strawweight contenders with her finish.

The first round ultimately proved to be a quiet one until its closing seconds, which saw Rodriguez land a jumping knee and counter a takedown attempt from Lemos, landing some ground-and-pound shots on top.

Lemos locked up Rodriguez for some clinching against the cage in the second round. And it was there where Lemos tripped up Rodriguez and got to her back quickly, looking for a rear-naked choke. Lemos almost had it but managed to keep on top as Rodriguez turned onto her back. Lemos managed to stay in top control for the remainder of the round.

Lemos then got the job done in the third round, landing a right to the head and unleashing a flurry that Rodriguez wasn’t able to effectively respond to — though Rodriguez almost immediately argued an early stoppage.
