According to the research, Hythe is the cheapest seaside resort in the UK and the best bargain staycation for 2023.

A fish and chip meal in the Kent resort costs just £8.70 on average while an ice cream comes in at £2.

Hythe was also good value when it came to the average cost of a holiday rental, at just £111 per night.

Hythe Beach is a shingle beach backed by a promenade with uninterrupted views of the Kent coast.

A tourist who visited the beach wrote on Tripadvisor: “Beautiful clean beach. The beach is beautiful, and the shingle is clean.”

Redcar in Yorkshire took the second spot on the list and a fish and chip meal costs less than £10 there.

While accommodation was slightly more expensive at £119 on average, the resort is still a great bargain option.

Redcar beach is sandy and close to the town where tourists will find a range of shops and restaurants to explore.

Looe was Cornwall’s cheapest destination with the average price of accommodation at just £115 per night.

Llanfairfechan was Wales’ cheapest hotspot and tourists can pick up a fish and chip meal for just £9.95 in the pretty seaside town.

Independent Cottages CEO, Matt Fox, said: “The cost of living crisis is continuing to encourage people to tighten their purse strings and many will be looking for where they can get the best value for money when it comes to holidays this year.

“Luckily, when it comes to the seaside, we really are spoiled for choice in Britain as it’s home to many wonderful destinations that can offer a wonderful coastal getaway for every need and budget.”
