UK’s favourite historic house is ‘so impressive’

Whether it’s a glimpse into the UK’s Roman history at Fishbourne Palace, or a day out on the Mary Rose, there are plenty of chances to learn more about the UK’s history.

However, when it comes to historic houses, there’s one destination with more visitors than any other.

According to research from the team at MoverDB.com, Edinburgh Castle is the most popular historic house in the UK.

But who lived in the iconic castle? The site was home to kings and queens for many centuries.

Queen Margaret died at Edinburgh Castle in 1093 while King James IV was known for hosting grand banquets there.

Mary Queen of Scots even gave birth to James VI in the Royal Palace, who went on to become King of Scotland at just 13 months old.

Britons will also be able to see the iconic Stone of Destiny, which is often used to inaugurate monarchs, in the Castle’s Crown Room.

A tourist ‘noell9044’ wrote on Tripadvisor: “Must see! So impressive with lots of history. The number one thing to do in Edinburgh.”

Another visitor ‘Alecia91401’ wrote: “Interesting historical place. This is a must see if you love castles.”

The team at MoverDB.com also looked at Tripadvisor reviews to find the UK’s best hidden gem historic house.

According to their research, the country’s historic hidden gem is Blairquhan Castle in Ayrshire in Scotland.

The Regency era castle was the historic home of the Hunter-Blair Baronets but more recently served as a location for Beauty and the Geek.

Its interior and gardens might also be recognisable from the Oscar winning film, The Queen, starring Helen Mirren.

An ancient sycamore tree that stands in the house’s grounds is thought to be a gallows tree, planted early in the 16th century.
