Thailand’s former Shoot Out winner Un-Nooh and China’s 14-time ranking event winner Ding have slipped down the rankings in recent times, to 59th and 38th respectively. However, their recent lack of form sets up an enticing qualifying encounter.
Despite Un-Nooh composing breaks of 69, 67, 59, 126 and 92 this morning, O’Donnell battled hard to force a final frame. However, the quickfire Un-Nooh, who averaged just 17.2 seconds a shot during the tie, hammered home a match winning contribution of 92 to get over the line.
China’s Cao Yupeng recorded a blistering 6-0 whitewash win over amateur Callum Beresford. Former Scottish Open finalist Cao required just an hour and a half of playing time to wrap up the victory. He composed breaks of 87, 72, 74, 84, 67 and a tournament high 144 to secure the win. He now faces compatriot Xiao Guodong.
David Lilley beat former UK semi-finalist David Grace 6-2 and set up a third round meeting with 2006 World Champion Graeme Dott. Yuan Sijun defeated John Astley 6-1 to progress, top scoring with a run of 132 in the last. He now faces Welsh Open champion Joe Perry.
