Theatregoers have always had the option of having a pre or post-show drink, but professional theatre company Life on Hold Productions has secured a venue for its next theatre season ensuring audiences never have to put down their pint.
Usually the home of after-work tradies and locals finishing off a few frothies, unlikely worlds have collided as Hamilton Hill watering hole Ed’z Sportz Bar plays host to the world premiere of award-winning Perth playwright Yvette Wall’s latest work, At Home With The Sheridans.
Thinking outside the box, the temporary theatrical transformation of a spare room at the bar is the brainchild of Life on Hold producer Sarah Christiner.
The quirky social drama, with touches of black comedy, follows seasoned burglar Jake who takes Marilyn on her first break-and-enter, not expecting Mr Sheridan to suddenly arrive home with his secret lover.
While the criminals forcefully confront the pair, things get worse when Mrs Sheridan pops in from work to get her phone.
“The play is about people with a marked social divide doing what they must to survive, whether it’s emotionally, socially, psychologically or economically,” Wall says.
“Nobody escapes, not even the Sheridans, but in our societal structure their sins are less visible and excused more often and I wanted to make a social comment about this.”
At Home With The Sheridans is at Ed’z Sportz Bar, May 12 to 27. Tickets at taztix.com.au.
