Unrecord is no Fake and its Makers Share Unreal Engine 5 Dev Footage to Prove It

0

Earlier this week, we shared a fresh trailer for Unrecord, an upcoming Unreal Engine 5 shooter that shows the action from the perspective of a police bodycam. At times, the footage in the trailer looks startlingly realistic, largely due to its impressive lighting, reflections, and unpredictable camera movements. The game looks so good, it had many onlookers crying “fake” or speculating that this may be another high-profile case of potential vaporware, along the lines of something like The Day Before or Abandoned.

Well, Unrecord director Alexandre Spindler has wisely attempted to get ahead of such speculation, posting a clip of him playing around with the game in the Unreal Engine 5 editor. This includes him manipulating parts of the game and moving the camera around freely. The clip also provides a slightly more in-depth look at how the shooting mechanics work.

So yeah, I think we can safely say Unrecord is a real game being made in Unreal Engine 5. The real question, which I asked when I posted the trailer earlier this week, is “Will this be fun to play?” That remains to be seen, but given the huge interest Unrecord has generated, there’s a good chance developer DRAMA (which is currently a small self-funded affair) will be able to secure extra financing, which should increase the chances of a good game.

Need to know more about the game? Here’s the official description for Unrecord…

“Unrecord is a tactical shooter where players can expect an immersive and narrative experience. Unrecord features complex dialogues, innovative gameplay mechanics, tough moral dilemmas, and a unique shooting system. The storyline in Unrecord can be compared to a detective novel or a thriller. The player will have to investigate several criminal cases and confront a diverse cast of characters. The game’s plot and presentation will be central to the gameplay experience, and players can anticipate a range of gameplay sequences as well as numerous plot twists.”

Unrecord is coming to PC and unspecified other platforms. The game is currently without a release window, but developer DRAMA says it’s currently in “pre-production.” You can wishlist the game on Steam.
