Updated March Madness bracket: Sweet 16 set with Princeton, Alabama, Houston advancing

The first weekend of March Madness is done and 15-seed Princeton is still dancing. Check out the updated NCAA Tournament bracket ahead of the Sweet 16.

There was every reason to believe that the NCAA Tournament would be filled with absolute mayhem after a wild regular season. After a first round that saw just the second-ever 16-seed advance when Fairleigh Dickinson stunned Purdue, even more madness ensued in the Round of 32.

Kansas, Marquette and Baylor were among the top seeds to go down one game shy of the Sweet 16. Lower seeds who made their mark and got to the second weekend include Michigan State and Florida Atlantic, the No. 7 and 9-seeds in the East Region, along with No. 15 seed Princeton, which followed up its stunner of Arizona with a victory over Missouri to become the third straight 15 to get to the second weekend.

After six days of chaos, we have a few days to catch our breath before March Madness resumes with the Sweet 16 on Thursday. The East and West Regions are up first on Thursday night before the Midwest and South take the stage on Friday.

The Sweet 16 is fascinating this year because we don’t have many true blue bloods left outside of UCLA and Michigan State. Non-traditional powers like Alabama, Houston, and Kansas State now find themselves in prime position to advance to the Final Four.

There isn’t a disappointing region in the bunch but the best basketball may come out of the Midwest, where the chalk held and the top four seeds got to Kansas City. The South also has arguably the most dangerous team in the field in Alabama and the Cinderella story of Princeton, which is the first Ivy League school to get this far into the dance since Cornell back in 2010.
