Vacheron Constantin’s garden party and movie screening in Beverly Hills.
Vacheron Constantin previewed its 2022 collection of luxury watches at a star-studded garden party on a private estate in Beverly Hills last week. The theme of the party – and the brand’s current marketing campaign – was “The Anatomy of Beauty,” in reference to the beauty of each tiny component in a watch movement. The slogan also refers to the beauty in the details of nature – hence the meticulously manicured garden as a venue. It was also the occasion on which to screen a film of the same title, created by Vacheron in collaboration with director, producer and cinematographer Louie Schwartzberg. “Anatomy of Beauty” explores the parallels between the beauty of nature and the beauty of intricate watchmaking processes. “It’s been a great pleasure to work with Louie Schwartzberg. His unique cinematography captures parallels between the many unseen mysteries to be discovered in our natural world, and the almost invisible tiny details of our hand crafted timepieces that together create a beautiful whole,” says Alexander Schmiedt, U.S. president for Vacheron Constantin. Celebrity guests included Dakota Johnson, Chris Paul, Riley Keough, Nicole Richie, D-Nice and Kate Mara.

Watches from the new collection were displayed throughout the grounds, including Vacheron Constantin’s first-ever ladies’ perpetual calendar, the Traditionelle Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin Ladies. The watch uses one of the brand’s elite mechanical movements, the caliber 1120 QP, the same one that drives men’s tourbillons in the Overseas and Patrimony collections.

It’s an ultra-thin caliber that is perfect for a ladies-size watch. The Traditionelle Perpetual Calendar is a very wearable 36.5mm wide by 8.43mm thick. The dials are feminine but minimalist, in pale blue or rosy beige mother-of pearl with tone-on-tone subdials and subtle markings. Cases are 18k white or pink gold. Straps have a slight iridescent glow, and are interchangeable, a must-have in the current world of ladies’ watches. It is priced at $87,500.

Another highlight of the new collection is the Overseas Tourbillon Skeleton, the first skeletonized tourbillon in the Overseas collection. The watch, being openworked, is a showcase for the level finishing this brand applies to its movements. It contains a skeletonized version of the caliber 2160 SQ, hand chamfering and polished bevels, a finely grooved mainplate, and bridges treated a surface tint in anthracite gray. There are two versions, one in 18k rose gold, and a titanium model that represents Vacheron’s first all-titanium watch: including case, bezel and bracelet. The skeletonization process eliminated 20% of the movement’s weight, which, together with a peripheral rotor, results in a slim (10.39mm), elegant tourbillon. Price on request.

Also on display was the crowd-pleasing Historiques 222, a reissue of a watch originally unveiled in 1977 for the 222nd anniversary of the brand. (This year marks the 267th anniversary of the founding date of 1755: Vacheron is the world’s oldest continuously operating watch brand).
