Actress Valerie Bertinelli has filed for a legal separation from her husband of 10 years, Tom Vitale.

Valerie, who was previously married to late rocker Eddie Van Halen, filed papers on Wednesday – the day before America’s Thanksgiving Day holiday – according to The Blast.

Bertinelli and Vitale wed on New Year’s Day, 2011, and the bride’s ex-husband and their son Wolfgang were among the guests.

The shock split news comes as the actress-turned-TV cook prepares to release her new memoir, which she recently called a form of therapy to help her work through old self-esteem issues.

The former One Day at a Time star’s book, Enough Already: Learning to Love the Way I Am Today, in which she reflects on how she managed to let go of her insecurities regarding her weight and signs of ageing, and embrace the woman she has become, is set for release in January.

“This book is about letting go of the mindset that made me feel broken and always trying to fix something about myself,” Bertinelli shared in a statement issued to People.com. “It’s the most personal, intimate writing I’ve done.

“I explore the things that I have gone through and continue to deal with in getting to where I am today – topics that I think will be familiar to many people – my relationship to food, being a mom, mid-life career changes, aging parents, saying goodbye to loved ones, and asking why the hell have I been so hard on myself for so long.”
