Van Mahotsav is an annual one-week tree-planting festival in India which is celebrated in the first week of July to spread awareness about forests and promote tree plantation and environmental conservation. Van Mahotsav is also known by other names like Vanamahotsava or Forest Festival and is celebrated with great enthusiasm across the country for a week.

The first week of July is believed to be the right time for planting trees in most parts of India as it coincides with the monsoon. Trees and forests play a very crucial role in maintaining the ecological balance of the planet. The Van Mahotsav week reminds us that we must protect forests and stop deforestation at the earliest. Van Mahotsav History

Van Mahotsav celebration was made into a national activity in 1950 by the Minister of Food and Agriculture Kanaiyalal Maneklal Munshi, who moved it to the first week of July and renamed it Van Mahotsav in 1950. Van Mahotsav Significance

Van Mahotsav is an important festival that spans over a week and is observed in the first week of July each year.
