It was a long-time coming and probably a little overdue, but Fred VanVleet was finally rewarded with his first career NBA Player of the Week honour.
It came following a week in which he led the Raptors to a perfect 4-0 record in which he averaged 30.3 points, 6.5 assists, 4.8 rebounds, 2.0 steals while shooting 46.7% from the field and 45.3% from behind the arc.
Not bad for a guy who was not even drafted.
Next hurdle for VanVleet is his first ever All-Star appearance and the timing of today’s award certainly won’t hurt his cause. Van was 10th in the initial voting among guards in the Eastern Conference heading into his big week.
VanVleet is also the first Raptor to win a Player of the Week award this season.
