Vauxhall has announced that an electric replacement for the Crossland SUV, and a new Grandland, will be launched in 2024.
This will ensure the brand completes electrification by next year, with goals being helped by Vauxhall’s partnerships with British Gas, Octopus Energy and Pod Point.
As part of its Mission Electric, Vauxhall will only sell 100 percent electric cars and vans from 2028 – seven years ahead of the Government’s final deadline.
The English brand has been headstrong in pushing for electric vehicles, with the brand saying it is “leading from the front with electric”.
Vauxhall has invested £100million in electric car production, with its Ellesmere Port site becoming the first Stellantis factory to exclusively build all-electric vehicles.
James Taylor, managing director of Vauxhall, said: “2024 will see us achieve the significant milestone of offering a fully-electric variant across our entire model line-up.
“It also confirms that going forward, all future Vauxhall models will be offered with a fully-electric variant from launch – demonstrating our commitment towards driving Britain to a brighter, electric future.”
This includes the popular Corsa and Mokka models as well as the Grandland, Combo Life family car, Vivaro Life and Movano van.
Vauxhall has gone even further in its aim to decarbonise not only the brand but transport with the expected introduction of the Vivaro Hydrogen in 2025.
Only a handful of major brands have developed hydrogen fuel cell technology, with many experts saying the fuel type is best suited for large vehicles like vans and HGVs.
In just two years, Vauxhall is aiming to sell the Vivaro Hydrogen, in hopes of combining quick recharging with long-range.
Another historic UK brand, Aston Martin, will create “industry leading” ultra-luxury high performance electric vehicles.
By partnering with Lucid Group, Aston Martin will invest £2billion over the next five years to accelerate its electrification strategy, long-term growth and phasing out of internal combustion engines.
Lucid would supply Aston Martin with EV technologies, including current and future powertrain and battery technology.
Lawrence Stroll, executive chairman of Aston Martin, described the new partnership as a “game changer” for the future of the brand.
He added: “Based on our strategy and requirements, we selected Lucid, gaining access to the industry’s highest performance and most innovative technologies for our future BEV products.”
