Police have handed notorious vegan activist Tash Peterson multiple charges after she allegedly stormed controversial chef John Mountain’s Connoly restaurant.
The 29-year-old activist has been charged by summons after she — and a group of fellow activists — attended Fyre restaurant on June 30 after Mountain banned vegans from his restaurant for “mental health” reasons.
The chaos started last month when PerthNow revealed Mountain banned vegans from attending his restaurant after a negative review was left by a plant-based eater.
Police allege Peterson acted in a disorderly manner during the June ordeal and refused to leave the restaurant.
Footage showed the group storming in and shouting with signs before Mountain and other restaurant staff physically forced them out of the venue.
However, just a week after the first disruption, Peterson returned to Fyre for a second protest — which police are still investigating.
Her charges over the June incident include trespass, remaining in the vicinity of licensed premises and disorderly behaviour in a public place.
Peterson is due to appear in Joondalup Magistrates Court on Monday 7 August 2023.
On Thursday, Fyre Restaurant made good on its promise to take legal action to ban Peterson from its premises after weeks of protest and violent brawls.
Mr Mountain posted a letter to his social media signed by Head of Litigation Dara Singh informing Peterson and fellow activist (and boyfriend) Jack Higgs that they are “with immediate effect banned from entry onto the Strata Land indefinitely”.
It warns them that if they enter, they will be committing trespass and that the business will “take all appropriate steps to remove and exclude you”.
The letter states a copy of the notice had been given to the Joondalup Police Station.
In retaliation to the charges and the venue ban, Peterson took to social media to share a video of her burning the Liquor Barring Notice she received.
Standing in front of a fire pit, she vowed to not back down and to “continue to speak up for the victims of the animal holocaust”.
“This is the fourth time I’ve received a barring notice from every liquor-licenced venue in Western Australia as a result of my activism,” she captioned the post.
“I don’t comply with this misuse of the law any longer. I will continue to protest at every business which serves the murdered bodies of non-human people, the stolen milk from mothers who were raped and had their babies taken from them, the stolen eggs from chickens who spend their entire lives in dark sheds, the skin, wool, fur etc. of animals who was taken from them before their murder.
“You won’t stop me. Ever.”
At the end of the video, Peterson could be seen burning the notice – with animal screams playing over the top.
She concluded the video by saying: “And guess what Australia? I’m getting the f..k outta here.”
Mountain didn’t seem sad about her leaving, commenting “Bye. ????????????”.
