Young West Ham fan Isla Caton had been battling cancer for years, and the club and supporters had rallied around her family to support her and raise money for treatment. Just weeks after her mother Nikki appeared on Good Morning Britain to talk about the importance of this support with Kate Garraway and Ben Shephard, she announced her daughter had sadly died. On Thursday’s ITV show, Kate expressed her sadness at the news as they shared the words of West Ham manager Mark Noble.
Ben remarked: “Many of our viewers I’m sure will remember seven-year-old Isla Caton, her mum Nikki came on to Good Morning Britain with Kate and I a couple of weeks ago.
“[She appeared] With Guvna B, who is a rapper, who had rapped spontaneously on Sky Sports about the West Ham football team.
“This rap had gone viral, and in support of Isla, who was battling cancer, it had been released to raise money for her treatment.”
Kate added: “And the club have really been behind this all the way along.”

“Yeah, and supporting Isla,” Ben confirmed. “Nikki was on to say how special that support had been.
“Well, very sadly, Isla’s family posted this tweet on their Twitter page on Tuesday.”
Kate read the post, which said: “‘It is with the heaviest of broken hearts that we must announce Isla gained her angel wings early hours of this morning.
“It was very peaceful and surrounded by the continued love of Nicola, Michael and Millie. God bless our brave Isla’.”
“I know that Mark Noble who’s the West Ham legend and club captain released a statement saying, ‘It’s devastating to hear the news that Isla has passed away.
“On behalf of everybody at the club, I’d like to express my sadness and send condolences to Nikki, Michael and Isla and their loved ones at this time.
“‘I was first introduced to Isla when I carried her out as a mascot for our Premier League game against Bournemouth in January 2018, it was immediately clear that she was a very special little girl.'”
“He goes on to say, ‘Her passing has left us all feeling heartbroken and empty, but Isla will never be forgotten, and she’ll be one of the West Ham family forever, rest in peace, little Isla.’
