After playing in Europe, Victor Wembanyama became San Antonio Spurs No.1 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.
The 19-year-old played in two summer league games before getting shutdown for reminder of summer league.
With NBA and Europe experience now under his belt, Wembanyama made an interesting claim.
“First of all, the court is more open [here]. It’s going fast, but it’s less physical,” Wembanyama said after an 80-85 loss against the Blazers. “I get fouled a lot, but not as much. Nothing to compare. Here, players are just flying. Out there, it’s more on the ground, pushing on the ground, big box-outs.
“Here, it’s great athletes, the best in the world. Way more talent. But I like this better, though.”
Wembanyama averaged 18.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 4.0 blocks in summer league action. He struggled in his hyped debut but played very well in the second matchup
