A wild brawl broke out during an AAU basketball game in Kansas City this weekend after a coach and referee exchanged punches following a questionable foul call.
TMZ reports the fight erupted Saturday morning during the Hardwood Classic X RecruitLook Summer Finale. Things got heated following what appeared to be a technical foul call, as the coach whose team got whistled for the foul ran up on the ref to exchange pleasantries.
After some back-and-forth jawing between the pair, things turned physical, with the ref throwing a right hook at the coach. Although it’s unclear where it landed, the punch sparked a melee, as the official started backpedaling as a mob of people started chasing after him.
From there, the fight escalated into a full-out brawl, with a handful of people swinging on the ref while his colleagues attempted to break up the fracas. The fight ends with several individuals pulling the coach off the ref, who appears to have been escorted to safety.
According to TMZ, police were called to the gymnasium around 9:45 AM on Saturday.
“By the time officers responded, the fight had already been broken up … but cops took a report for non-aggravated assault,” the outlet notes. “We’re told all victims declined to press charges.”
