I’VE never been a fan of playing a round on the fairways — but a return to the amazing Golf del Sur resort will be par for the course for me from now on.
I was lucky enough to stay at the Wyndham Residences in stunning Tenerife and the luxury accommodation was out of this world.
The resort is only a ten minute taxi ride from the airport and before my and my two pals knew it we were in our stunning villa and jumping in our private pool. We quickly got into the swing of the good life.
The villa has a great outdoor dining area, perfect for al fresco eating and even a barbecue if you wanted to go that bit further.
There was plenty of sunbathing space as well around the hot tub and private pool — perfect for dipping into to cool off in the splendid heat. We were in holiday heaven.
The villa had three bedrooms, split over two floors and could cater for up to eight people so a room each for me and the two Steves.
Two of the giant bedrooms even have their own en-suite. How’s that for plush?

I bagged the showpiece room upstairs which also came complete with TWO outdoor sunbathing areas if I wanted to tan on my tod. What’s not to love!
The downstairs area was like something out of glossy homes mag. The open kitchen complete with a large island and all the mod cons.
And the sprawling living area with a comfy sofa was a great place to take a break from the sunshine to watch the massive TV which seemed to have pretty much every satellite channel.
As amazing as our private pool was — it was great to mingle with the rest of the guests at the Wyndham.
The huge pool complex was popular throughout the day, but not too busy that you couldn’t have a proper swim if you wanted.
It was great to have a chat and drink by the pool or an ice cold Dorada lager in the hotel’s 19th hole, after lapping up the scorching Tenerife temperatures which hit the high 20s most days.
But it isn’t all lounging around here. There’s plenty to do if you want to get off the sun lounger, including an outdoor gym, crazy golf course and table tennis table, as well as regular interactive games like darts and even bingo!

Zacary’s poolside restaurant and bar didn’t disappoint with a wide range of fantastic dishes from fresh locally-sourced salads and Canarian dishes to old staples like pizzas and burgers.
And at night, I loved my cracking steak with all the trimmings, while the in house musical entertainment provided the perfect accompaniment. The staff at the bar and restaurant really couldn’t do enough for you.
As the resort name suggests, the region is a mecca for golf enthusiasts but the sand I was more interested in was on the stunning beaches rather than the bunkers.
One of the best courses is the Golf del Sur Golf Club, which has had the honour of hosting the Tenerife Open more than once. It really is the perfect setting with lush greens, and a backdrop of volcanic hills.
It’s pretty easy to see why golfers head to the region all year round to soak up the sunshine and improve their game.
There’s even a golf academy and a driving range for those who want to brush up on their skills or for those just starting off.
Golf del Sur is a fairly laid back resort, but it’s far from boring. It’s got several pubs and restaurants dotted around which were packed with Canarians, expats and holidaymakers. There’s also plenty to explore if you fancy getting out and about.
Nearby is the traditional village of Los Abrigos. You can take a taxi to it, but to truly appreciate the area it’s best to stroll along the picturesque coastline from Golf del Sur.
It takes around half an hour, but it’s the perfect way to see more of the place as you walk along the sea promenade. And once you arrive, you’ll feel like you’re in the heart of a lovely Spanish community.
There are dozens of restaurants flanking the water, selling the freshest seafood and tapas.
We scoffed on a delicious paella, left, with a bottle of red wine while we listened to the waves lap on the shore and watched the sun set.
The main square has a lovely church with a number of cafés and plays host to a weekly market which is super popular with tourists and locals alike.

It doesn’t matter how active or chilled you want your holiday to be — you’re guaranteed to enjoy it in absolute luxury in Golf del Sur.
And at Wyndham Residences, you’ll definitely get the hole lot in one.
