Village Cooperatives offer homes with all the perks, no headaches

Love owning your home but hate the hassle of shoveling snow or mowing the lawn? Tired of upkeep and worrying about sidewalk cracks, drafty windows or fixing a leaky roof? Then Real Estate Equities Development, LLC has an offer you shouldn’t refuse.

The development company has more than 40 Village Cooperative properties for active adults 62+ either complete or under development around the country, including 11 in Colorado. Village Cooperative has homes available at Chatfield and Broomfield and is launching another in Colorado Springs.

“Village Cooperatives provide active adults a new housing option that offers them all the benefits of home ownership without the headaches of maintenance or the surprise of costly repair bills,” says Steve Von Schmidt, Village Cooperative marketing director.

Joining a cooperative provides the advantages of owning a home with the simplicity of renting.

“That’s because instead of buying a home outright for $450,000 or more, you purchase an equity share of $190,000 on average for a two-bed, two-bath home. Then, you pay a monthly fee of approximately $1,800 that covers everything inside and out, including replacing your light bulbs. That share appreciates at a fixed 3% per year until you leave.” Von Schmidt says.

Make your home your own

Village Cooperatives offer more than 15 home styles. Those options range from a 900-square-foot, one-bedroom, one-bath home to a 1,700-square-foot two-bedroom, two-bath home with a den and/or media room.

“Our members don’t want their home options to be cookie-cutter,” Von Schmidt says. “We have lots of plans to choose from and people also can choose their home’s interior finishes if they reserve early enough.”

More than a home

While the appeal of no maintenance is the initial draw, people quickly appreciate the opportunity to make new friends and participate in activities. Village Cooperatives offer a community room with a full kitchen, club area, fitness room, hobby shop, reading areas, and underground parking with a carwash bay.

“We realized over the years that our current house was too much work and upkeep. We weren’t finding anything we liked until we heard about the Village Cooperative, says Judy Robertson, a Village Cooperative member. “We found that living there allows us to live in comfort with neighbors like us who want more social opportunities, less work, and a return on our investment. We already feel more relaxed and secure about our future.”

Time’s running out

Whether you are working or retired, there’s no time like the present to consider what Village Cooperative offers. The company is currently in pre-construction with its Chatfield (Littleton) and Broomfield projects and has a few homes available with construction starting soon. The Colorado Springs project just launched with a quick sellout expected.
