Vin Diesel, the indomitable face of the Fast & Furious franchise, is preparing to take fans on a bold and, as he describes it, “scary path” with the upcoming Fast & Furious 11. After wrapping up his press tour for Fast X, Diesel shared insights into his creative endeavors for the 11th installment in this iconic action series.
Speaking candidly on Instagram alongside Sung Kang, another franchise stalwart, Diesel revealed how they’ve been meticulously going over feedback from Fast X. From the sun-kissed shores of the Cayman Islands, the duo basked in the euphoria of what Diesel calls their “creative dojo”. Fans’ feedback is a top priority for Diesel, especially in light of the divisive reception that Fast X received.
“So much inspiration and time to reflect. And to talk and work out [Fast X: Part 2] and to double-check all the aspects that need to be hit, and this kind of scary path that we’re going on for Part 2 for Fast X.”
Fast X managed to haul in $694.4 million globally but struggled to match the domestic performance of its predecessors. With a production budget that raised eyebrows at $340 million, Fast X still has a steep hill to climb to break even.
Fast X’s Star Power Collided with Critics Response
The film was met with a lukewarm response from movie critics. Rotten Tomatoes gave Diesel’s film a 56% rating. Critics lambasted the film for its convoluted storyline and occasional descent into absurdity. However, audiences were more forgiving, with the movie securing an 84% audience score. Diesel’s enthusiasm for incorporating fans’ feedback into Fast 11 seems to stem from his recognition of the importance that the franchise holds for them.
Fast X, despite its criticisms, was not without its share of triumphs. One such triumph was Jason Momoa’s portrayal of Dante Reyes. Momoa, with his magnetic on-screen presence, played the vengeful son of a Brazilian kingpin, hell-bent on bringing down Dominic Toretto, Diesel’s character.
Rumors swirled that Diesel was peeved by Momoa’s scene-stealing performance, but Diesel quashed them on Instagram with a picture of the two sharing laughs on set. Fast X also marked the much-anticipated return of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as Luke Hobbs, paving the way for an upcoming spin-off centered on his character.
The star power in Fast X was nothing short of staggering. The cast boasted the likes of Brie Larson, Helen Mirren, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Alan Ritchson, John Cena, Charlize Theron, Jason Statham, and Gal Gadot. Diesel confirmed that Fast X was the opening chapter of a closing trilogy for the Fast & Furious franchise.
As the engines roar and the anticipation builds, Fast & Furious fans around the globe wait with bated breath for what Diesel promises to be a “scary path” in Fast & Furious 11. Diesel vowed to take the franchise fans’ feedbacks and criticisms into consideration.
The next installment might just be the adrenaline-infused joyride that will reignite the fiery passion this franchise is celebrated for. It already has a release date set for April 4, 2025.
Fast X is currently playing in theaters. While it may not have been the nitrous-fueled spectacle many were hoping for, it has undoubtedly set the stage for a high-octane finale.
