Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady were two of the NBA’s biggest stars in the early 2000s. The high-flying duo were known for their devastating dunks and great abilities as scorers.
Another pretty cool thing about the pair is that they found out they were related during their NBA careers.
In an appearance on Carter’s podcast, The VC Show, the pair told the story of how they found out they were cousins.
As McGrady prepared to enter the NBA Draft, he worked out at the University of North Carolina with Carter, who was attending the college at the time.
McGrady told Carter that he would have to leave early to attend a family reunion, and Carter thought nothing of it. Shortly after, Carter received a call from his grandmother, who was joined by McGrady. McGrady excitedly informed Carter that the two were cousins.
McGrady credits Carter as an “inspiration,” noting that he was excited to play with him and train together before the NBA Draft.
Carter and McGrady would play together for three seasons with the Toronto Raptors before McGrady joined the Orlando Magic as a free agent in 2000.
The pair are perhaps best remembered as teammates for their performances in the 2000 slam dunk contest.
